New year means new trends in photos and videos! So, do you already have an idea of the trends for the coming year? We provide you with our predictions and trends that we have already noticed.
Let’s quickly look back at the year 2017. Diversity was highlighted and many photos and videos dealt with this subject. In the same vein, the flashy colours were in the spotlight. Also, complementary color combinations were required for amazing and vibrant photos. It was therefore a year rich in colours and various subjects. The must-see were always there: animal, nature and portrait photos. Find in our top the photos that marked us in 2017.
For 2018, some trends are still in place, which is why culinary photography is still in vogue. Its precision and gourmet dishes are always appreciated. The same is true for timeless landscape or architectural photos, where the plant is the main focus. This is reflected in the ecological trend that remains relevant today. The green color has often been highlighted, including Greenery being voted the Pantone® color of the year 2017. It is now the purple Pantone® Ultra purple that embodies the year 2018. From now on, metallic colours are back in fashion. These metallic photos are all the more trendy if they are made in black and white, because monochrome photos are the trend becoming in 2018.
As for shapes, monochrome colours go hand in hand with the return of minimalism. Minimalist photography is a style that is becoming more and more popular in the world of photography. Many photographers use this style in different fields, for example in portrait photography, animal shooting, landscape or architecture. The minimalist photo makes particular use of the composition of the photo, where a very refined, or very geometric, rendering is given. It is important to highlight the subject in the photo by choosing the right composition. A minimalist photo makes it possible to isolate a subject, to show the space, immensity, curves or shapes of a building, to really emphasize what you want to show in the photo. Minimalist photography can give a certain feeling of escape, of freedom.
In addition, graphic compositions will be back in style. Indeed, the associations of geometric shapes will be highlighted. This form of minimalism brings a certain symmetry to the photos.
Videos are still very trendy in 2018! Last year, storytelling was very important, especially in various advertisements. For photos, this translates into the expression of a story that can be discovered at a glance. For videos, storytelling translates into the atmosphere of the video, but also into the script, shooting and post-production techniques. People are therefore put at the centre of attention and emotions are demonstrated and bring a definite feeling to the 2018 videos.
As with photos, graphic videos are omnipresent on the media. Rapid transition effects, such as zooming and switching, were trending in 2017, and will remain so for the year 2018. These videos are very rhythmic with ambient sounds, which are no longer masked by music but revealed in 2018, in order to bring more dynamism and life to the videos.
